The cornet is a brass instrument that is used in concert and fanfare orchestras, but also in the brass section of classical orchestras and in brass bands. The sound is somewhat halfway between the flugelhorn and the trumpet; not as velvety as the flugelhorn, but still a lot less sharp than the trumpet. You can play many styles of music with the cornet.
